Marseille have reportedly joined the race to sign Egypt winger Haissem Hassan after Real Oviedo rejected an opening offer from Celtic.

The Scottish giants submitted a bid worth about €4 million, or £3.4 million, for the 24-year-old following his performances at the World Cup.

Oviedo rejected the approach and are referring interested clubs to Hassan’s €12 million release clause. The clause had previously been set at €18 million, but fell in value after the Spanish club’s relegation from La Liga.

Oviedo sporting director David Fernandez said the club would retain control over any departure. Fernandez made the comments during his presentation as sporting director amid reports linking the Egyptian winger with Celtic and other European clubs.

Marseille are monitoring the winger’s position, according to French reports, while clubs in England and Saudi Arabia have also been linked with a move.

Hassan’s transfer value increased after Egypt’s run to the World Cup round of 16. He started the 3-2 defeat by Argentina and assisted Mostafa Zico’s second goal after a counterattack led by Mohamed Salah.

The France-born winger joined Oviedo from Villarreal in 2024 and is under contract until 2027. Villarreal are entitled to 40% of a future transfer, according to Spanish reports.

London: Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova will fight for the Wimbledon title on Saturday, but the Czech pair's bond will remain intact no matter who wins their first Grand Slam crown on Centre Court.

Muchova and Noskova have been friends for several years, spending time together off the court and playing doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

For a few hours at the All England Club this weekend, that friendship will be put on hold, with a life-changing moment within touching distance in their first Wimbledon final.

"We got to know each other a lot during Olympics a couple of years ago. We spent a lot of time together because we played doubles and almost got the medal," Noskova said.

"Karolina is such a great fighter, such an incredible player, but mainly she is such a great person. I'm glad I can play my first final against her."

Whoever holds aloft the Venus Rosewater Dish on Saturday, it has been a remarkable tournament for two players who have grown close despite being at far different stages of their careers.

Muchova made her WTA main draw debut nine years ago and has been on the cusp of making her breakthrough at the Grand Slams several times.

The 29-year-old has lost several semi-finals and was beaten in three sets by Iga Swiatek in her only previous major final at the 2023 French Open.

Muchova, who had lost in the first round on her previous four appearances at Wimbledon, is at last unimpeded after suffering a multitude of injuries in recent years.

In 2022, doctors told Muchova that it would be a good idea for her to quit tennis altogether, while in 2023 and 2024 right wrist surgery sidelined her for 10 months.

Muchova takes "pills, sprays, eyedrops" to manage a grass allergy, but she is no longer adverse to playing on the surface.

"It's a very special moment. It's a great achievement," Muchova said after beating two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff to reach the Wimbledon final.

"This is one of the biggest tournaments that we have with all the history."

'Gave me the belief'

In contrast to Muchova's litany of near-misses, Noskova is enjoying a meteoric rise.

The 21-year-old only made her Wimbledon debut in 2022 and now she is in her maiden Grand Slam final after dispatching Marta Kostyuk in the last four.

Noskova may not be a star just yet, but she has won more matches on grass than any other player on the WTA Tour in the past two years.

In the lead up to Wimbledon, she won the Berlin Open for her first grass-court title.

"When I play my best I know I can play with the best players in the world and a have a great result, which is a final in a Grand Slam I guess!" she said.

The Czech duo's run to the final has extended their country's rich history at Wimbledon despite a population of just 11 million.

For the third time in the last four years, a Czech woman will be Wimbledon champion following triumphs for Barbora Krejcikova in 2024 and Marketa Vondrousova in 2023.

Noskova was inspired by the success of her childhood idol Petra Kvitova, who won at the All England Club in 2011 and 2014.

Jana Novotna memorably won Wimbledon in 1998 after losing two previous finals. while Karolina Pliskova reached the 2021 final and Hana Mandlikova twice finished as runner-up in the 1980s.

"We have great history of Czech tennis," Muchova said. "Myself, when I was younger, looking up to the girls who were older than I was, you can just see them doing so well. It gave me the belief that I can as well do it."

Noskova added: "It's a tradition at this point. I would say we are brought up in the same way, with our game on grass allowing us to play any style."

On the cusp of Wimbledon glory, for either Muchova and Noskova, the lawns of south-west London will be hallowed turf forever.

Doha, Qatar: When Norway and England meet in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals early Sunday morning (12am Qatar time), a place among the final four will be at stake, but so too will two very different footballing dreams.

England continue their pursuit of a first World Cup title since 1966, while Norway have already rewritten their record books in North America and now stand one victory away from a first semi-final appearance.

Both arrive full of belief after surviving dramatic knockout encounters, setting up what promises to be one of the most intriguing ties of the tournament.

Thomas Tuchel’s England have shown resilience as much as quality on their route to the last eight. After topping Group L ahead of Croatia, the Three Lions have twice been forced to dig deep when their World Cup hopes appeared to be slipping away.

Their Round of 32 clash against DR Congo produced another landmark in England’s World Cup history. Brian Cipenga’s early strike left them trailing at half-time before captain Harry Kane produced a trademark response, scoring twice to secure a 2-1 victory and hand England their first-ever World Cup comeback win after trailing at the interval.

England’s Round of 16 clash against Mexico proved another dramatic test. Jude Bellingham struck twice in quick succession to put England firmly in control before Julian Quinones reduced the deficit. Jarell Quansah’s dismissal threatened to swing the momentum completely, but Kane calmly converted from the penalty spot for his sixth goal of the tournament before Raul Jimenez replied with another spot-kick. England ultimately survived a tense finale to prevail 3-2 and return to the World Cup quarter-finals for the second consecutive tournament.

Standing in their way are a Norway side who have become one of the stories of World Cup 2026.

Having finished runners-up in Group I, Stale Solbakken’s men have embraced the knockout rounds with fearless conviction. They secured the nation’s first-ever World Cup knockout victory by defeating Cote d’Ivoire before producing one of the tournament’s biggest shocks by eliminating five-time champions Brazil.

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland’s penalty save proved pivotal before Erling Haaland struck twice in the closing stages to send Norway into the last eight of the World Cup for the first time.

Erling Haaland has been Norway’s standout performer with seven goals this tournament, while captain Martin Odegaard has continued to impress with his creativity in midfield.

For Haaland, the quarter-final carries extra significance.

“It’s a special game, yeah, definitely. I think for me it’s super special, because I play in England and I was born in England, and you also play against team-mates and everything. It’s a funny game and it’s gonna be nice,” Haaland said.

“Playing against Brazil was kind of crazy for us Norwegians and to win against Brazil and then go and play England in the quarter-finals in the World Cup in the USA is quite special.”

England also have their own stars in fine form. Harry Kane has scored six goals and provided one assist in five matches, while Jude Bellingham has delivered another series of influential performances and will be looking to add to his tally in the quarter-finals.

With two of the game’s most prolific strikers leading the line, fine margins could decide the contest.

England will be without suspended defender Jarell Quansah following his red card against Mexico, while Norway are monitoring the fitness of full-back David Moller Wolfe after he was forced off during the victory over Brazil.

Jordan Henderson is also an injury concern for England after suffering a wrist injury in the celebrations following the Mexico win.

History offers England encouragement.

The Three Lions have won seven of the 12 previous meetings between the nations, with Norway victorious twice and three matches ending level.

Yet history has counted for little throughout this World Cup.
